Skaya is doing very well!

She has trimmed down a wee bit (she was very fit when we adopted) and her vet says she is just right. Her health has been remarkably good.

She loves to hike Mount Douglas with my son and me. It took some time for us to find out how much activity would "tucker her out." She plays fetch with the neighbourhood dogs in the fenced ball park. She's 4, outruns the 2 year old border collie and gives the fox terrier pup a good workout. She runs full out 'til she's huffing, takes a few minutes break to worry her road hockey ball, then she's right back at it.

She loves to run with the kids at the park, never bumping or bowling. Although she loves to snuggle with Alex, who's 8, she's not a cuddler with others. She will do a 6 foot circle around people and bring a ball to their feet, but likes her 'personal space.'

The University of Victoria has an off leash dog area. Skaya meets up with dozens of 'regulars.' She's not the least bit aggressive off leash, but is defensive on lead.

Skaya has moved from her original sleeping area in the hall, which was outside the bedrooms. Her bed now sits beside Alex's and they both sleep better for it. I'm glad there is a door on the bathroom, because that's the only personal time we get. She's beside one of us all the time.

Skaya and I went to Obedience training this fall. She is ready to do trials for her CD. When we went to the first class, it was as though she knew right where she was and what was expected of her. She's the best 'watcher' in her class. She keeps her eye on me the whole time.

Everyday I'm grateful for her company.
