Buddy's New Home!

Congratulations to Buddy! He has a new home with the Marsh family in Veneta, Oregon!

Although his background is unknown, various rescue people stepped in to help Buddy. He was discovered in a shelter in Illinois with no identification. Although this shelter took very good care of him, several people decided to help out by finding him a good family. Originally the shelter gave him the name Rowdy, but since he turned out to be such a good dog, his foster family changed his name to Buddy. That name seemed to fit his personality much better.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to Lynn Dillon and her family for picking up Buddy at the shelter and bringing him home to foster him until a permanent family was chosen. We are so fortunate to have people like them in NEMDA. Also, a big THANK YOU to everyone on the NEMDA rescue committee for helping out.  No matter how big or small the contribution, it all helps!

On Monday, March 31st, Buddy was shipped from his foster family in Indianapolis to his permanent family in Oregon. The Marsh's already have a dog and her name is Sammie. Now she has a "Buddy" to play with!

Here is a little story of Buddy's first few days in his new home:

Thursday, April 3, 2003
Well it has been 3 days and Buddy is fitting in nicely. He is such a good, and handsome dog. He and Sammie are getting along nicely. Sammie was not willing to share 'our' bedroom with him, though! So Buddy sleeps in the living room, in Sammie's bed! Even though he has a brand new one of his own.

I took him with me to visit my Mom, she is 81. He jumped up and gave her kisses. When I went outside to do some things for my Mom, he ran from window to window watching me. When I came back in he sat by my feet and gave me such adoring looks! My Mom thought it was funny that he was so bonded to me after 2 days!  I think he was afraid he was going to get left in yet another home!

He can be a little stubborn about coming when I call, we will work on that. He sits beautifully for treats and meals, and before he comes in the door. Someone spent some time with him!

All in all it has gone better than I expected. Sammie is a little more jealous than I expected her to be, though. Buddy takes everything in stride and nothing much seems to bother him.

He is doing great! I have arranged a visit with the Vet on Friday for introductions and to have Buddy microchipped.

Buddy had ridden in the car to visit friends and my mom in town, and hasn't gotten car-sick! Lynn (foster-mom) warned me that he might. So far so good! Buddy and Sammie have settled in pretty well. Sammie will now allow Buddy to sleep in the bedroom with us.  My husband says we will have to remodel to make the bedroom big enough for us all!

He is becoming more active every day as his confidence increases. He is becoming a good watchdog, taking his cues from Sammie.

He is just the best dog!  Thanks again!!

BUDDY VET VISIT: Took Buddy to meet our Vet today. Everybody there thought he was such a good and handsome dog. He gave kisses all around.  The Vet doesn't think Buddy is overweight, just stocky and muscular. He weighs just under 52lbs--so Lynn, the diet food and excercise did good! She (the Vet) thought that he would level out now with regular excercise. She could feel all of his ribs and that (I guess) is the indication of a healthy weight.  She gave me some antibiotic cream for his ear wound, and also for his ear canals. He has been scratching both ears and she said he has a 'little' infection in both ears. She thought he was very healthy and didn't need any blood work done.  We microchipped him so he wouldn't ever get lost again (I hope). He didn't care for that or the ear exam much!

He was very much a gentleman, and didn't bother the other dogs there. I was very impressed!!

They gave me a free exam. They all wanted to hear about how I aquired Buddy and they got out a book and looked up Entlebucher, and it was in the book they had. All in all they thought Buddy was very much a keeper!!  Me too!

Suzanne

PS: He did get car-sick on the way home from the vet. My husband had given him a treat, I forgot to tell him not too. Buddy also got treats at the vet, and I didn't have the heart to not let him have them!
