Brewster's New Home!

Brewster's Background:
Brewster was found as a 4 month old puppy and taken to the humane society. His first placement was with a man that was gone a lot of the time and he left Brewster tied up outdoors. Brewster injured his right patella when pulling on the outdoor tie-down. He was about a year old when he was taken back to the humane society because the owner said that he barked too much. He had knee surgery and was in foster care during his rehabilitation.

The second placement was with a family. That seemed to work out fine, but they subsequently placed him with yet another family when they moved. The new family left him outdoors, in a kennel, with no attention. They fed him over the wall of the kennel and watered him with an auto-feeder. He barked whenever anyone came home, trying to get attention, and the neighbors got annoyed. He was taken back to the humane society.

He then went to a foster family in Michigan. The humane society volunteer told me that they worked to train him, but that the foster family didn't continue with the training. He was reportedly crated when staying with other families while the foster family went on vacation, but C-clamps were used to hold the crate closed to avert his escape due to his kennel/crate phobia. He broke out all of his back molars trying to chew through the crate.

Brewster was then placed in his adoptive, permanent home. Unfortunately, due to severe allergic reactions by their child, Brewster could not be kept. NEMDA did not have a foster home available, so Brewster was sent to a foster home in Swissy Rescue.

Brewster's Adoption:
As you know, Matt and I took off for the weekend and placed Brewster with our friends that we see nightly at the dog park (they own Ridgebacks). When we returned to pick up Brewster, I had asked about how he did while we were gone. They absolutely raved about what a wonderful dog he was. They also said that while they were at the dog park with him, they received two offers from two of the regular dog park attendees stating they wanted to adopt Brewster. (I guess that even though we always talk about what a great dog he is, it was different when they heard the same thing from an unbiased party.)

Anywho, both of these dog families are wonderful and they have wonderful dogs (one owns a chow and the other owns a rottie). They are there every night at the dog park with their dogs, and we've known them both for two years now. So, Matt and I sat down to talk about whom we would prefer to adopt Brewster on a trial basis. After talking and talking and talking, it was finally apparent to me that Matt didn't want ANYONE to adopt Brewster. So I had to ask him flat-out... did he want to keep Brewster? He just gave me a sheepish smile...

So, it looks like Brewster has a new home and yet another foster family bites the dust. With seven cats and THREE dogs, we can no longer foster. The good news is, we get to keep Brewster! ;)
