2009 Maifest in Leavenworth
|
Once again Maifest in Leavenworth, Washington was a great time. Unfortunately the economy took its toll on attendance but those that did make it had a wonderful time and the weather was amazing. This is NEMDA’s 11th year at Maifest!
We had five Entles, Mysti, Jett, Gidget, Laika and Sassy and two Swiss wannabes – Tosca and Chips.

We started off our weekend with our traditional joint dinner with the Bernese Mountain Dog Group at Visconti’s Restaurant and we had 34 attending and everyone ate far too much. Then it was back to the Der Ritteroff for some wine and visiting – often the best part!

The next morning we took advantage of the great weather and a few of us went for a walk down to the Icicle River where the dogs had a bit of a swim and a good run. It is such a beautiful setting you can’t help but enjoy yourself.
Every year the Lions Club in Leavenworth puts on a pancake breakfast and many of us take advantage of the outdoor breakfast because the dogs can go too! Then it’s back to the Motel to get dressed up for the parade. Dogs with their flowers and the girls in their dirndls…
After the Grand Parade down the main streets of Leavenworth we headed back to the Der Ritteroff for a BBQ and then of course, the Doggie Games. We had a good turnout for the games this year and I am sure that the tunnel was a great draw. What a hoot! – Mysti was the Entle winner for a first try for the tunnel and Bill was there to catch her on the other end….
Sassy was the fastest Entle and as usual a big thank you to David and Coral Denis who supplied the prizes that were special for all the breeds in attendance – Bernese, Swissies and our little Entles. It was funny to watch the huge Greater Swiss, Bindy decide to turn around inside the tunnel and everything started to rock and roll! We rounded the games out with relays that everyone participated in..Great fun was had by all.
